The Journey Through Divorce-Social Media and Divorce
There are so many things to think about when you are headed down the road toward divorce. Like most of us, if we use social media sites, we have to rethink how we use them during the divorce process.
One thing my attorney insisted upon was that I go see a private investigator. This came as a shock to me, but I listened to my attorney. I went to the office, and the first thing they did was head to my soon-to-be ex's Facebook page. So yes, your social media accounts may be used against you in court proceedings.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when using social media during your divorce journey.
*Anything you say online can be used against you in court.
*Don't say negative things against your soon-to-be-ex that can be used against you.
*Some say you should stop using social media so you don't post anything that can be used against you.
*Don't vent about your divorce on social media.
*Don't delete your accounts on social media without speaking to your attorney. If you delete your account, you may be said to be hiding evidence.
*Don't post or allow yourself to be tagged in provocative photos which can be used against you.
*Make sure your privacy settings are at the highest level and change your passwords.
I am sure that these few things barely scratch the surface of what not to do with your social media accounts during a divorce. I do hope that this will make you think before you post.
God Bless You on Your Journey!
