A Father's Day Legacy-My View on Father's Day as a Divorce Woman
Father's Day
A Divorced Woman's Perspective
"The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children, and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith."
Billy Graham
This is Father's Day weekend, and I find myself thinking about how important character is in the legacy our Fathers leave behind. Just what is character? Wikipedia describes it this way...
"The concept of character can imply a variety of attributes including the existence or lack of virtues such as empathy, courage, fortitude, honesty, and loyalty
or of good behaviors or habits."
I was listening to a sermon recently on adultery. I have spoken to many women going through separation and divorce, and most of these cases involve infidelity. A mistake is one thing, but when repeated over and over, which is the majority of the time, it is no longer a mistake but a character flaw.
Here is what the pastor said happens in the wake of adultery...
*It causes untold hurt to the wife (or husband)
*It causes confusion to the children (regardless of their ages)
*It enables the laughter of those who disrespect God
(gives atheists reason to further doubt the existence of God, and I witnessed this firsthand)
*It grieves the heart of God
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."
Galatians 5:22-23a
Dear Lord, we all leave a legacy of some type behind us. Please help us, in all our imperfections, to leave a legacy to be proud of. Not in the money we make or the things we own but in what matters, love for others and service to you. Amen
