Stress Relief-One Way to Relax is by Taking a Bath

Many things in life can increase our stress. There are also many techniques that can help relieve stress. With that in mind, let's take a look at one way to relieve stress,
and that is by taking a relaxing bath.

Need Stress Relief? Try Taking a Bath.

The Youtube Version

I am not really what you would call a bath person. I typically take showers. When I heard that some folks take a warm bath to relieve stress, I began reading numerous sites on what good can occur just by taking a bath. Here is what I found.

The positive effects of taking a bath:

Improves mood; it is a mood booster

Helps decrease stress and anxiety

Reduces muscle tension and muscle soreness and thus relax your body

It can help you sleep

Stimulates Circulation

Calms the nervous system

According to Health Line, taking a bath can Improve your breathing and help decrease pain, improve your blood sugar, lower your blood pressure, and protect you from illness and infection.

Bath Tips

Aromatherapy through scented bath oils can increase the therapeutic benefits of a bath.

Set the mood with lighting and calming music.

Support your head with a towel or bath pillow.

You can use a bubble bath or shower gel to produce bubbles.

Have everything you need at your fingertips, such as a good razor, body wash, body scrub, shampoo, and conditioner,

My prep for the stress relief bath.

I went to the Hobby Lobby and purchased candles, glass candle holders, and a candle lighter.

I bought some bath goodies at Bath and Body Works.

I found the perfect station "Relaxation Radio."

The Experiment

I lit the scented candles and turned on "Relaxation Radio."
I began to fill the tub with warm/hot water. About halfway through the process, I poured in a little "Stress Relief Eucalyptus and Spearmint Essential Oils Luxury Bath" from Bath and Body Works.
I also had my glass of ice water, body wash, and body scrub nearby.
I ensured my towel and washcloth were within reach, turned off the lights, and was ready for my first intentional stress relief bath.

The Result

I have taken two stress relief baths since starting this experiment.
The first bath was a bit too hot. It took me a while to get used to the temperature, and after being in the water for about 20 minutes, I started sweating. I, too, can become lightheaded if I stay too long in a hot bath. I do not enjoy getting overheated.
I cooled the heat a bit in my second bath and found it much more relaxing.

The candles and the music set a peaceful mood.

When I was in the water, I took the time to focus on the moment. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the scent of the aromatherapy, the feel of my clean, smooth skin after using the scrub, the calming sound of the music, and the warm water on my skin.

I do find taking an intentional stress relief bath does relax me. Afterward, I felt calm and peaceful.
Will I continue this practice to relieve stress? Yes, I will. It will not be a daily practice, but maybe once a month.
If you find you are feeling stressed, try a Stress Relief Bath.
Wishing you a stress-free day,
