Stress Relief and Self Care-Feeling Stressed? Drink Some Herbal Tea!

Stress and anxiety relief are essential in life.  Many things can lead to excess stress and sadly divorce is one of those things.  Today we continue the my series on stress relief and self care.  One way to relieve stress may be herbal tea...Let's take a look...

First off what is herbal tea.  According to VeryWell Health..

"Herbal teas are not true teas because they are not made from tea leaves. Instead, they are made from an infusion of ingredients like fruit, herbs, roots, bark, seeds, and flowers. However, since the beverage is brewed and enjoyed like true tea, it is referred to as herbal tea."

Herbal teas don’t contain caffeine, which is why they’re known for their calming properties.

Some say it may not always be the tea that calms you but just the habit of sipping the tea that reduces anxiety.

There are many herbal teas and each seems to contain different properties having multiple effects on the body.  When related to stress Chamomile seems to be at the top of the list.

Chamomile tea – improves sleep and reduces stress. Chamomile contains apigenin which is an antioxidant and sleep inducer.  This antioxidant attaches to brain receptors to reduce anxiety and calm you which can lead to drowsiness. It may even work as a mild tranquilizer.

Benefits of Chamomile tea

  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Soothes cold symptoms
  • Aids in heart health
  • Aids in digestion
  • Aids in sleep
  • Reduces Anxiety
  • Soothes sore throats
  • Good for the immune system

Other teas that are suggest to help with anxiety and have a calming effect are...
  • Lemon Balm
  • Passionflower
  • Holy Basil
  • Lavender
  • Matcha
  • Rose
I searched for information on how long you need to drink herbal tea to get the desired result but I did not find an answer.  For now in the evening I will enjoy a cup of herbal tea...it can't hurt.

Wishing you a low stress day!
God Bless
